The Woodlands (A Pantoum)

Feet dangling off the dock

I looked across the lake

The mountains whispered once again

The wind wouldn’t tell me what they said

I looked across the lake

I saw trees singing around a campfire

The wind wouldn’t tell me what they said

But they all caught flame and now they’re dead

I saw trees singing around a campfire

I told my mom and she said

But they all caught flame and now they’re dead

And her chutney smile bled

I told my mom and she said

You’re losing it darling

And her chutney smile bled

My stomach is rolling from all the dread

You’re losing it darling

I’m hallucinating myself with a catfish head

My stomach is rolling from all the dread

I keep searching the lake for clues instead

I’m hallucinating myself with a catfish head

And formulating hypothesizes based off lies we pledged

I keep searching the lake for clues instead

As the geese flock toward my moldy hunks of bread

I’m spiraling and swirling towards an end

Feet dangling off the dock

So I pull out my stash and to no end

The mountains whispered once again
