Puppeteer

Hello, hello! Thank you for coming to read my poem, Puppeteer. I don’t really like the idea of getting into specifics when it comes to inspirations behind most creative works, but especially poetry. I just think it really is written one size fits all- in other words, however you receive it- that’s the way it should stay. What this poem means to me, might not hit home the same for you.

So, I would contrarily love to read what the poem means to you in the comments below! Think about the themes that jump out, any words that come to mind, or just any description you have of how the poem fits you. I’d love to read! With that- happy reading and I’ll leave you to the dressing room. (Aren’t you glad I’m a poet instead of a comedian?)

Puppeteer

I remember looking up at the stars

you were somewhere to my left

or were you to my right? anyways we were

lying on our backs on a bench

head to head

you shifted sideways and scooted closer

and your cheek pressed to mine

and I always wished I could have kept that moment

its funny, I wanted you like nothing else

back then

I wish I didn’t

I did though, even with all your reds

I think I kind of loved you

even if I only just figured it out

but I believe in what’s meant to be

that it will be and always be

and what isn’t will not

and that love doesn’t resemble strings

so in that case, maybe not

But if you do, ever figure it out

how to work your heart

try New York or California

or a bench

and there I am, still looking up at the stars

Welcome to The Screams, a poem I recently wrote. Read along down below for my interpretation of ‘poetry’ in general. Happy reading! When I tell people I write poetry, I get different deliveries of the same sentiment. And that consensus is that many people ‘don’t understand’ poetry. But…
